WHY CHOOSE TO FILM IN ROMANIA

The institutions

  • Most city halls are accustomed with the film-making projects and communicate well with film crews in order to offer the best services
  • Filming and accommodation costs are relatively lower than in other countries
  • There are no health-threats and you don’t need vaccination before travelling. Moreover, Romania prides itself with  eco-friendly agriculture, something that your crew might appreciate.

The people

  • You can find a wide array of needed services and professionals like well-versed stunt-men, animal trainers, equipment for rent etc
  • Bucharest is home of one of the leading film-schools in Europe, The National University of Film and Theater “IL Caragiale”, an institution that forms professionals with great potential.
  • The community is very supportive and tolerant, there are no fanatic groups and as long as you treat the country with the deserved respect and your environment according to the norms, your team will be most welcomed to film here
  • Romania is “the melting pot of Europe” and here you can certainly find the most diverse people, with diverse features. In terms of casting actors or extras you will find that Romania has a lot to offer.

Weather and environment

  • Weather is fairly predictable. Romania has 4 seasons that manifest as you would expect
  • Romania has one of the most diverse landscapes of Europe, with high mountains where you can find snow throughout most of the year, access to the Black Sea (remote beaches or luxury complex), the Danube Delta (with its luxuriant vegetation) and many other places that are ready-made, natural movie sets.
  • Romania’s history is complex and you will find here amazingly well-preserved medieval villages, strongholds, richly decorated palaces and Roman architecture. An off the beaten track circuit for a location scout should probably include some modern ruins that were, sadly, left by the communist regime – old industrial areas, out of order military bases and other places that are worth exploring. Interestingly enough, they have been used before in entertainment, for laser-tag contests and shootings, because of the post-apocalypse feel.
  • The benefit of filming in one of Romania’s many castles would be mutual. Romania is “the hidden treasure of Europe” and will benefit from the exposure. As Romanians are aware of this aspect, you will find them supportive and hospitable
