The dramatic landscapes of Danube Cauldrons (Cazanele Dunarii) is unique in the world. The 9 km canals are sided with spectacular vertical walls. This amazing landscape is a unique ready-made fantasy movie-set.
It is part of a 215ha natural reservation, with Sub-Mediteranean and Central-European vegetation.
On the sides of the canals you can find spectacular constructions that seem to emerge out of the water.
The scultpure of King Decebal's head - in the same spirit as Mount Rushmore, this mystical-looking 55 meters work of art seems to emerge out of the water.
The Bigar Waterfall
The Mraconia Monastery (of the dark waters) dates from the early XV century. Part religious site, part stronghold, this monastery is a testament of many historical conflicts.
The Tabula Traiana - roman monument dated 105AC. (ruin, not restored)
The Trikule Stronghold was flooded after the construction of a powerplant during the communist regime. Two of the towers are visible, rising from the water.
The natural reservation also includes many caves, some of which are easily accessible.
The Danube Cauldrons have easy access and are tourist-friendly (many accomodation options in the area, with all comfort provided and modern transportation).
