Stretching over 200km, the winery entered the Guinness Book of Records as the largest subterranean wine city in the world. The tunnels underneath the edifice are carved in limestone and store over 1.5 million collection bottles. They go as deep underground as 85m.
The wine cellar is impressive in size. It used to be a military underground installation in Soviet times. Most of the roads connecting different halls are wide enough to accommodate drive in.
Because the distances are considerable, drive in is an option, which some people do.
The restaurant above ground is surrounded by thick stone walls. Wrought iron doors, lantern lit corridors and natural fountains give this winery a romantic, luxurious feel.
Milestii Mici is 20 km away from Chisinau (Moldova). Accommodation is available in the area.
