THE HOUSE OF PEOPLE

The house of people is the largest building in Europe, built during the communist regime. It is a powerful and controversial symbol of intimidation and megalomania, built under the orders of the dictator Ceausescu.
You will find the House of People has kitsch and overly-grandiose designs that are perfectly executed by some of the greatest artists of the time, without sparing any efforts or money. Concept aside, the quality of work, materials and overall execution is exquisite. Overall, at each step, the visual impact of this building was considered - it was meant to keep people in line.
The building dominates its surroundings and has a cold, dominating feel, sharp motifs and crushing size. The interiors are richly adorned, and they reflect some of the traits of the dictator - rigor, craze for power, lack of education and the "bigger is better" creed of Ceausescu.
The surroundings show the modernized Bucharest - we practically have here a "luxury communist neighborhood", with tall buildings and a long string of water fountains that would have been visible from the presidential balcony.  The entire area, although modernized, still carries the communist concept, the feel of paranoia and fear.
As expected, the House of People is easily accessible, in the center of Bucharest, and the area offers all the comforts from wi-fi to high-end hotels. It is properly maintained. Today, it is used in part for Parliament and Government discussions and in part for events. A wing is dedicated to the Modern Art Museum (as attonement).
